Michael Winthrop Cohen is an associate with Barrett & Farahany, LLP, representing plaintiffs’ interests in claims of employment discrimination, retaliation, harassment, overtime violations, and entitlement to benefits. Michael focuses his practice on alternative dispute resolution, through which he works to reduce the risks of litigation and achieve the most advantageous negotiated and mediated settlements for his clients.

Prior to joining Barrett & Farahany, Michael was a review management consultant for a leading provider of e-discovery solutions, Excelerate Discovery. As a consultant, Michael managed teams of attorneys to provide cost-effective business and IP litigation support services. Michael also worked as an associate with the Atlanta office of King & Spalding, where he specialized in commercial real estate transactions.

Michael received his bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, from Brevard College, where he served as the Student Government President and co-founded the Debate Society. Michael received his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, where he was an Articles Editor for the Berkeley Technology Law Journal. While in law school, Michael provided legal aid to community-building, non-profit entities that were organized to create business incubators and cultural centers for minority populations in and around Oakland, California.

Outside of work, Michael makes frequent trips to visit his undergraduate alma mater in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Michael proudly serves as a member of the college’s Alumni Advisory Board and actively seeks to embody the college’s motto in his legal practice: "Learn in Order to Serve."
